A new yearly piece of decoration for EHQ.
After much discussion with Scottish Borders Council, sponsorship from Park Resorts, Landels Electricians LLP, Ancroft Tractors and our own donation, Eyemouth Herring Queen have managed to erect 69 banners around Eyemouth to celebrate 70 crownings of our Eyemouth Herring Queen.
As you can imagine, this was a mammoth task and preparations for this started, just about as last years festival finished. Permission, insurance, lamppost testing and “money gathering” had to be done to enable this. Greatful thanks goes to “Scocha” as the money we raised this year from their fundraising gig in Eyemouth High School in April, was used for this project as our contribution. The project as a whole was nearly £10, 000, but from the feedback we have received, they are a big hit. Past EHQs have come already to pose under their banners with pride and we look forward to more of these during EHQ week.
The banners take the route that is usually used by the EHQ processions and we have tried as best we can to get the banner for that particular EHQ as close to their house/former house/house of a relative.
As you can imagine, many hands made light work, so thanks goes also to Martin & Euan Landels, Karl Turnbull, Duncan Lough, Committee members, tea makers and those who stopped to give the “thumbs up”.
